Copying or cloning your event in Swell takes just a few seconds. But launching your repeat event confidently takes a little more intention.
When you copy an event, your URL, branding, content pages, products, and customized emails all carry forward. This saves time, preserves your QR codes, and prevents guests from ever landing on an outdated link, but it also means that some of the details that are copied over might need some pruning.
This guide walks you through exactly what to review, refine, and update before you relaunch your copied event. We’ll cover when you should and shouldn’t clone, the key sections to edit in Setup and the Email Editor, and a final confidence check before you click “I’m Ready.”
If you’ve already copied your event and are wondering, “Okay… now what?” you’re in the right place.

Is the Cloning Process for You?
Most of the time, the answer is yes! If you need to change your URL, you'll need our help before launching your site. If your event is completely different this year, meaning it's a different event concept, cloning probably won't work for you.
What to Edit
Before launching your newly copied Swell event or campaign, you'll want to check these 7 areas:
- Details
- Branding
- Content Pages
- Products
- Email Editor
- Sponsors
- Groups
Questions to Ask Yourself in Each Section
Details
- Remove "copy" from your event name in the details section under set up.
- Do you need to update the date, time or location? Is the description for fundraising pages ok as it is, or is it outdated?
- When you make changes, remember to click the blue save button at the bottom (
).
Branding
- Are there any dates or locations in the images from last year?
- Did your organization rebrand?
- If you're using the logo section to highlight a sponsor, does that need to be changed?
The most common mistake we see here is forgetting to click save! Remember, the images aren't actually updated until that's done.
Content Pages
- If you referenced a goal last year, do you need to change it?
- Are old dates, times, or locations mentioned?
- Do you need to move/archive information about past honorees?
- Are there any FAQ's you can add from your experience last year to refresh that content?
Products
- Do you need to update prices or quantities for tickets, tables, or sponsorships?
- Are any of the details for tables/teams or sponsorships changing this year?
- Does anything need to be archived or unarchived here?
- Are there any products you can safely delete to declutter this area?
Email Editor
Look at your emails in the Email Editor. Any customizations you made last year were copied over for you.
- Are there hard-coded dates, times, or locations that need to be changed?
- Do your emails reference former board members, staff members, or honorees?
Checking Sponsor Logos and Groups
Groups and sponsor logos for your sponsor scroll are copied over during the cloning process. Do any of those need to be deleted?
Final Checks
Ready to Launch!
Now that you've completed your checklist, you're ready! Click the blue "I'm ready" button to publicly relaunch. Remember, you can change anything except your event's URL after your site is launched. If you need to make changes to that, reach out so we can help before pressing that blue button. You can make any necessary adjustments even after your site is launched.
