A unique feature of the Swell system is the ability to copy (or clone) previous year campaigns. This article will explain why this is an important feature, what happens in your Swell dashboard when you copy an event, what information is copied over when you clone a campaign, and what information is not copied.
Looking for how to copy an event and get it ready to launch? This article will help.
Why is this an important feature?
You'll be able to keep the same URL from year to year. This matters because:
- It means you never have to worry about someone getting lost because they clicked an old link for your most important annual campaigns and events.
- You save time and reduce the chance for human error because you won't have to update this information on your printed materials.
- Building out your campaign or event site will be quick and easy because you'll only have to update it instead of having to create everything from scratch.
Here's what happens in the Swell dashboard when you copy (clone) an event:
- The system will archive the current event and create a new site on the existing domain.
- The old event will get a new name and URL. For example when I cloned our sample event, 10th Annual Dinner (Tabled Event), the name of the original event changed to 10th Annual Dinner (Tabled Event) 2023-01-24. The URL changed from https://olddinner.swell.gives to https://olddinner2023.swell.gives.
- The new event will appear in your active events list with the addition of "- Copy" in the event name.
What information is copied forward from the previous year?
The new site will have the following from the previous year:
- Domain / web address. This is the part before swell.gives for example in example.swell.gives.
- Branding images
- Content from the Content section under the setup menu
- Product setting (all tickets, sponsors, tables from the previous year)
- Email customizations in the email editor
- All settings including button names, page titles and customizations, and virtual module settings.
- Sponsors in the sponsors section under setup
What information is NOT copied forward from the previous year?
Now that you understand what happens when you clone an event, it's time to get your copied event ready to launch. Click HERE to learn how to do that.
