Fundraisers vs Donors

Fundraisers and donors are different. While fundraisers can be donors, not all donors are fundraisers.

In short, fundraisers are ticket holders or people who've clicked the "Become a Fundraiser" button on your site. Donors are people who click the "Give Now" button through any page or your site or a fundraiser's personal fundraising page.

All fundraisers receive a personal fundraising page. Unless the link is hidden through the customizations in the Email Editor, ticket holders get their link in their ticket email. Fundraisers who clicked the Become a Fundraiser button receive their link through a confirmation email.

These fundraisers can send that link out to their friends through email or social media. Then, when someone clicks on it and donates or makes a purchase, the donation or purchase is credited to the fundraiser who sent out the link and that fundraiser's social score rises. If this fundraiser is on a team, the team is also credited.

Here's an example of what that might look like:

1. Mary buys a table/team through your Swell site for $125 and checks the box to say she will be participating. She names her table Mary's Krewe.
   1. Because she is participating, she is a ticket holder/fundraiser.
   2. Mary invites Jane and Susan to join her team.
2. Jane accepts the invitation so she becomes a ticket holder/fundraiser as well.
   1. Jane is now a ticket holder/fundraiser.
   2. She sends her link out to her friend, Tom who clicks it and donates $20.
   3. She also sends her link to her friend Abby who clicks it and buys a $20 ticket through the site.
3. Susan can't come so she declines the invitation, but also makes a $20 donation.
   1. Susan is not a ticket holder so she has no link to send out to her friends.

Here's how all that looks on the leaderboards:

Because Tom and Abby clicked on the personal fundraising link that Jane sent them, Jane's social score increases on the Top Social leaderboard.

Top Fundraisers

Mary $145 (she's credited for her purchase and Susan's donation)

Jane $40 (for Tom's donation and Abby's ticket)

Abby $0 (Abby is a ticket holder too so she is on the leaderboard, but nothing is credited to her yet.

Top Tables

Mary's Krewe $185 (all of the activity described above is credited to the team)

Susan who is a donor and not a fundraiser doesn't appear on any of these leaderboards.
